This is the third Batmobile lego set I've assembled. My favorite one is the Batmobile from Tim Burton's 1989 film. That set was the one that irreversibly brought me back to Lego and moreover it was a challenging set that reproduced the car with very large proportions and realistic details. The second Batmobile I assembled was the one that reproduced the model of the classic seventies TV series, a set of the same proportions as a “Speed Champions”. This Batmobile presented with a very demanding and long title is actually still the Batmobile from the 1989 film except that this one too, like the one from the classic TV series, has the same proportions as a "Speed Champions". Clearly being a fan of this car, I immediately purchased this smaller scale model, for collection and for fun. Mainly I was curious about the details of a model that remains not only my favorite Batmobile but in general the most beautiful car model ever designed after the 1979 Corvette. Regarding the reasons that made me love this Batmobile, I invite you to read the first post I linked above. Assembly Process Inside the box there were four envelopes and a small set of stickers for a total of 144 steps. The envelope number 1 was the largest and covered passages 1-46, as soon as I opened it I noticed that there was no symmetrical body, a typical element of Speed Champions sets. At the same time I could see how although the car was completely black, the internal bricks of the assembly had yellow but also turquoise colors. I built the body of the car little by little with larger pieces and at step 10 I began assembling the rear axle. At step 24 with the addition of a large rectangular piece, I was able to understand the size of the car, much longer than a normal speed champions as the distance between the axles was very long. Then at step 43, with the addition of the tail, the car was further lengthened, giving it dimensions that I didn't expect. It took me approximately 25 minutes to assemble the contents of bag 1, the one with the most pieces. Envelopes number 2 and 3 had fewer pieces; in 2 the assembly was characterized by filling the central part of the car with the fixing of a particular component such as the retractable machine guns. The assembly of envelope 3 instead focused first on the assembly of the front part and then with the large side wings above the rear fenders. With the pieces of bag 4 I instead used bricks to cover the car, especially the long hood. Then I completed the car by putting the roof and wheels. I assembled the Batmobile in one sitting, taking about an hour and a half, I didn't have any particular difficulties or unexpected events, plus the set only had a couple of very simple stickers to apply. To be honest I didn't have high expectations regarding this set, mainly because having already assembled the same model in a larger scale which is over 60 centimeters long and about 24 wide, I thought this Batmobile was more of a toy. However, already as I assembled it I noticed different proportions, neither too large nor too small. The final result thrilled me even more because this Batmobile is not simply a smaller scale reproduction but a true masterpiece. Maybe it's because I particularly love this model but the dimensions and details reproduced are perfect. I believe that the measurements of this Batmobile are also ideal for future Speed Champions or at least if Lego were to make changes to this type of set, in my opinion they should opt for the same proportions as this Batmobile. All the details of this design, from the front, through the hood and up to the rear of the wings and exhaust, are reproduced in great detail. There is even a function like those of retractable machine guns, which in this model work better than in the large model. In the large version, the machine guns are activated by turning the rear exhaust, but the operation is not smooth. In this small model however, turning a small side wheel activates the mechanism which literally blows up two side parts of the hood, making the machine guns emerge in a decidedly fluid and realistic way. Another peculiarity is the flame applied to the rear exhaust; this is connected to the wheels so by moving the car, the plastic that reproduces the fire rotates creating a very realistic and cool effect. In other words, this model of the Batmobile from the 1989 film is the small version only in terms of proportions but not in terms of beauty, fidelity and functionality which are perhaps even more realistic than the large model. This seemingly simple set turned out to be a surprise, a model with its own personality where the small proportions are an advantage, giving the set the beauty of a perfect model. As I write, Lego has launched another version of the same car and this time it seems like a model for children. However, this Batmobile model fascinates me so much that I will most likely buy this one too, just to see if Lego will be able to amaze me again even with a set dedicated to children. A.M.
