I heard the word “Pimp” for the first time in the movie “Casino”. In this masterpiece by Martin Scorsese there’s a character played by James Woods named Lester Diamond. This Lester is essentially a looser, a man who never did something good with his life except for his influence on Ginger McKenna played by a gorgeous Sharon Stone. Once that Ginger married Sam Rosthstein, played by Robert De Niro, who’s the one who runs a big Casino in Las Vegas, she also get into money. Well Lester which also was the former Ginger’s boyfriend use his influence to spill money to Ginger. Once that Sam find out it, here comes the troubles for everyone. There’s a scene which describes the events I’m talking about and it’s epic. In that scene Sam humiliate and threat Lester with his power and there comes out all the worse about Lester. Essentially a weak man without feelings, good only to make deals for his personal interests, capable of all the worse things only to take advantage for himself. This is how I discovered the word, it was perfect for Lester but I thought it could also be good for a type of man who lives in my city. Here there’s a kind of man who doesn’t like to go to work, who prefer to live “finding” money scamming other people or big companies, the type who took advantage of a “baby retirement” (some really retired at the age of forty). The man itself is not a bad man it’s just a useless human being who live fighting the capitalism on his own way, spending without going to work. Sometimes he’s also funny it’s just that he can’t deal with the classic jobs. Of course this man has an outfit. I’ll talk here about the spring-summer look which is a casual one composed by a trendy jeans, a shirt worn strictly outside the jeans, loafers shoes without socks and a bomber leather jacket. This outfit is comfortable and chic at the same time and it takes only five minutes to wear it. Now even if our man doesn’t work, he’s so busy so he can’t waste time to get dressed but he needs to look good. Details like the shirt outside the jeans and the shoes without socks are the key to be fast to get dressed and to look chic at the same time. I remember this kind of man-outfit since I was young and I have to say that now the trend is changed a little, in fact the “pimp” today look like more like a soccer player. They wore branded t-shirt, stud shoes, glitter hat and stuff like that. I want to celebrate the old times and I replicate the classic “pimp” style. I used my skinny Dondup jeans with a white Zara shirt, a new kind of loafers by Faruk Sagin and a leather bomber jacket. I completed the look with this new Dsquared2 sunglasses, that I like for top which is flat, it looks so cool. The color tone is blu, which is so “summer” in my opinion and I like it so much. I also liked the shoes, a perfect mix between a sneaker and a loafer, I can’t stop myself talking good about this Turkish brand. What disappoint me is the jacket, I own many of this brand but this one has some white dots all over, I think it’s because the coloring process hasn’t done good, plus the elastic on the bottom is not good quality, I think it will become useless in a matter of months. So I liked to play the pimp for a while with a little sadness thinking about the fact that this style so popular during my childhood has been replaced by a modern one. Btw you can still find it in some old men today, probably they’re former pimps. A.M.
