I purchased this Lego in the Berlin store inside the Mall of Berlin in Potsdamer Platz during my last visit to Germany in October 2024. As is my recent habit, if I have space left in my suitcase, I try to buy a small Lego set as a souvenir of the city I visited. The choice of this Speed Champions set was dictated by the fact that this car, in addition to being small, was a Technic model, so I was especially curious about this aspect. This is the second F1 model that I have built after Ayrton Senna's McLaren, which is a different type of set. In reality, what impressed me about this Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 was the large model seen in the Barcelona store in May 2024. That car did not look like a Lego but a pure model car, in person it had an incredible impact and was simply beautiful. Not having planned to buy that set in the short term, I opted for the small version and then maybe add the large model to it. These are the main reasons for the purchase where certainly the curiosity for a Technic of this kind was the most stimulating reason. Assembling this Mercedes was a real pleasure even though the difficulties were the same as those of a larger Technic. Except for one mistake where I mounted two elements on the short side rather than the long one, all the rest of the assembly went smoothly and without a hitch. It must be said that this Technic being a Pullback had the small mechanism I suppose spring already assembled so it did not have the reproduction of the engine. This made the assembly easier however the set had 26 stickers that I miraculously applied well and to my great amazement. As for the proportions of the car, these have nothing to do with the other Speed Champions and personally I would define this set more as a Technic Mini. In fact the car is slightly smaller than the set of Ayrton Senna's McLaren which is certainly more beautiful but is part of another category. I must say that I really enjoyed assembling this Technic and I liked the reproduction and interpretation of the details. If before assembling this set I was impressed by the large version, at this point my curiosity is at its peak and I will probably buy that version too. With this set I have definitely changed my attitude towards Technic, a type that initially bothered me but that now I appreciate a lot and in which I want to invest more time together with that of architecture. Obviously I have never put myself to the test by assembling one of the more complex Technic with more pieces. I hope that the large version of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 can be the first of the series, obviously only after finding the adequate space to display it. A.M.
