This is the third pair of Geox loafers that I buy and I consider this brand on par with more famous brands such as Cesare Paciotti or Tod's. I bought the first Moner model which was exactly like these but in suede, about ten years ago and I have practically used them for everything; as an evening shoe, later for travel and now I use them at work where I don't need a formal outfit. The Made in Italy brand Geox is famous for having a particular patent for shoes that “breathe” as they advertise them. What amazed me from the first pair of loafers that I bought was their reliability and durability over time. When it comes to more classic models, it is easier for a shoe to last but for a loafer the matter is different. A shoe like this which is halfway between city and “gommino”, is an essential shoe where the sole is built directly on the upper without other levels of rubber or insoles. This is one of the principles of comfort but at the same time it makes the shoe more in contact with the ground and therefore easier to ruin. This has always happened to me with all loafers even with the super expensive Tod's. With Geox instead I have to say that the shoe loses a bit of liveliness on the leather but the finishing and especially the sole rigorously sewn to the upper, does not show the slightest sign of wear. It goes without saying that this shoe is also very comfortable considering that I always use these shoes without socks. Last winter I also bought a model called 2fit with a double insole that makes the loafers both for winter and summer. In fact, using the double insole makes the shoe warmer and waterproof while removing it and using only the one at the base, the shoe transforms into a totally summer shoe. The Moner 2fit was very useful to me on the trip to Thailand where, starting from a winter temperature, I was able to use it with socks and then remove the insole and use it lightly during the stay in the Thai heat. As for this Moner model presented in calfskin, it is a continuous product that is not present all year round. Last fall when they put it back on sale I immediately bought it after almost two years of looking for it. Initially I wanted to use it as a travel shoe but then trying it on and seeing it on my foot I decided that I will use it for summer nights. Finding a calfskin loafers that also have a nice appearance is not an easy thing, even the similar Tod's model that I have, does not look good with jeans and a t-shirt. This Moner instead does not have a lace or snap hook on the upper part, it makes simplicity its strong point. It has the Geox logo branded on one side of the upper part which makes a nice effect and is in fact the only element that breaks the aesthetic linearity. Another detail is the stitching, both the visible ones on the outside and those on the sole. The external ones give depth while those under the sole are a rarity in shoes that today are mainly just glued. These Geox instead have these stitchings on the sole made in such a way as to also have an attractive design. The design of the sole in fact sees the rubber studs with holes to allow the inside of the shoe to breathe and the stitchings are inserted between them giving an effect of robustness and aesthetic sense. Even if it will still take a few months, I will try to use these Moner first by combining them for a shooting and then later I will try to create summer outfits using this shoe with which I have found myself so well in the past.
